COVID-19 Information

LEISD has discussed and reviewed advisory details related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19).  As with any respiratory virus (cold/flu), it is spread primarily from person-to-person who are in close contact with one another and through droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

From a maintenance and custodial standpoint, our staff has been making sure that every building has hand sanitizer available.  Our staff does additional cleaning for classrooms/common areas that include disinfecting all the surface areas. In those times that we are seeing a heavier concentration of the cold/flu in a given area, we are also having the building maintenance staff use a disinfectant bomb on the area.  This bomb is great in killing germs in a 6,000 square foot area.

The key to making sure viruses are reduced as much as possible include teaching students to cover their cough and hand wash with soap and water for 20 seconds.  Also, encouraging parents/guardians to make sure they keep their student at home when sick.

From an administration standpoint, we have been monitoring the situation on a daily basis and are in communication with hospitals, Office of Emergency Management for Bowie & Miller counties, other school districts and other governmental agencies.  All of us are working with the overall best interest of not only students and staff but community as well.

TEA’s recommendation on travel is to exercise good judgement, apply common sense and work closely with local health authorities to make the best decision that will maximize the health and safety of students, staff and families.  We are working with all student groups that are travelling during this time period and ask our staff to review any professional travel they may have during this time.

The links below provide information about the virus as well as guidance from the Texas Department of Health and the Texas Education Agency.

We appreciate your efforts during this time.
