Internet Safety: Blogging
BLOGGING
Blogging has become an extremely popular part of the internet phenomenon. Even news sites and television companies will have people on staff who blog for their websites because this sort of content is the type of thing that internet users look for when they visit a website. These blogs will generally allow users to comment on the blog entries to incite discussion about the topic of the blog. However many popular blogging websites such as LiveJournal, Blogger, Wordpress, and TypePad are all created with a more social aspect in mind, allowing users not only to type entries, but also to add friends and comment on each others posts and join communities that users can post freely in.
Blogs will usually have a particular focus - an overall subject that the blog encompasses - are primarily textual, although some focus on art, photographs, videos (vlogging), music, and audio (podcasting).
There is also microblogging, wherein the user is blogging in short posts, like on Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook. These are limited phrases or characters but may still be numerous in content.
Consider your privacy and security.
Because many blog atmospheres are very similar to social networking sites, it's important that you consider the privacy settings on these websites just like you would on any social networking sites. Read our page on social networking to learn more.
